tservais's review against another edition

I went into the book hoping for some substantial discussion of how/why mathematics works so well to describe the cosmos, and maybe even some enlightenment about the how of consciousness. That didn't happen. What the author did was to introduce all of the weirdness with which I was already familiar: the two things mentioned above, fine-tuning, various non-intuitive quantum mechanics effects. Then he waved his hands and declared that our farthest future selves create reality by requiring us to create it, by their existence. Or something like that. Not as out-there as The Montauk Project, but not satisfying.
