Best by far of the original trilogy. Great story, engaging characters, and a kind of fantasy meets the Avengers vibe that I enjoyed thoroughly.

Whew! Finally finished the original Shannara trilogy and because of Sword, it was a mixed bag. I had to read Sword because that was the starting point and I loved the ending but the work up to it had me rolling my eyes many times. Elfstones and Wishsong are MUCH better and Brooks' vivid scenery and character description are fun to read. Of the three I preferred Elfstones but Wishsong was greatly enjoyed too.

Whew! 504 pages. Reading this book was a chore. However, I was drawn in by the characters and their individual journeys. You can see Brooks coming into his own and trying new things in this book, but he also leaned on some comfortable devices. If you're already a fan, it's worth the read.

I’ve been trying for a year to finish this book and I just can’t. The story is fine the writing is fine but it’s like the author literally hit copy and paste on his outline for all three books and just changed up the characters and locations a bit. The plot path is the same as the first two books.
