I think this could be a really great book for a person who isn’t me. It just felt so much like a middle grade book and not a YA. Despite there being small romance elements and a stronger theme of death, it just felt like I was reading a middle grade when I was meant to be reading YA.

And in general, I think it could’ve survived without the romance element. The romance
between Cassius and Marlene felt entirely unnecessary to me, especially since I felt they had no reason to be together. (I was honestly rooting for Bluejay and Cassius the whole time)

I actually really liked this! I think I liked this more than I liked the first book in this series (which is by a different author). I think it’s a bit predictable as I guessed who Smee was & Marlene’s fate was very obvious but I feel like it gave background to Hook’s hatred for Peter and why he was so focused on killing him. I’d be interested in a follow up story to this one for between where this ended and where Peter Pan starts (like how did he get back to Neverland, what did he do while back at home/while he finished growing up, the infamous Tick-Tock Croc story). Overall, I really enjoyed this!

I love how this book gives motivation for why James, who becomes Captain Hook, HATES Peter Pan.
