Novela que tenia pendiente desde hace tiempo, me ha encantado. EntraƱables personajes bien construidos, lo mismo nos saca una sonrisa que una lagrima. Isabel Allende nunca decepciona.

Every time I pick up and Isabelle Allende book, I'm reminded of how much I love to read her work and how much she can take me to whatever place she's set her novels. This time, I'm in Chiloe with Maya on her adventure to heal mind and body. Almost makes me want to travel to Chile.

Really enjoyed this book by Allende. Focused on a Chilean American Berkeley raised teen girl who goes wild after her beloved grandfather passes away. For some reason the crazy and fast descent into a life of depravity - drugs, rape, prostitution, and nihilism reminded me of The Goldfinch. However I liked Maya's story much better. It was more interesting and believable. Both told thru a series of time shifts and exploring the worlds of privilege and despair.

Isabel Allende is, without question, a fine writer of the highest caliber. Although I loved reading this book, it was very slow and I felt that nothing was progressing in the story. As such, I did not finish reading it. The pace may be enough for others but the slowness made me want to sleep.

I read this book in Spanish and like all of Allende's book it was outstanding. I don't know many people who don't like her. In fact, I've only met one. This book is very different from many of her other books though it does have historical information here and there that make the story that much more interesting. Maya is an awesome character - lovable and deplorable at the same time! A must read!

Have always been a fan of Allende's work and think this may have been her best so far.

I wish I could give this another half star. Not her best work; but still very engaging. I was able to solve the mystery early in the story, but the story was good enough to keep me reading.

As always, Allende's writing style is what I like best about her novels.
