i read this because i absolutely love the poetry of ellen bass and was curious to see this. i think it’s so cool to read through 30 years after publication as a present day lesbian just out of high school. it was all very insightful and affirming to see, maybe even more so in knowing how old this thing is. the singular paragraph for trans people was incredibly outdated, bordering on horrific in my opinion, but for the most part this was all great. there was a little part mentioning a revised expanded edition or something similar, i wonder why that never came to be. probably bc the exhaustive research poured into this one just took tons of time to complete. but its a very sweet book to read and informative, i recommend it wholeheartedly
