I really loved this book- I read it in 1 day. I thought it was written beautifully and felt connected to the characters. Good read!

Thoughtful

The story begins with the most shocking introduction I may have ever read. The happenings have been written of before, but this perspective is one of beauty.

I listened to this one and really liked it. It's been a while since I read a WWII book. This is about the German occupation of Prague and a concentration camp there. Another area of World War II I'd never even heard about. It's harder and harder to imagine all of this the older I get, honestly. Anyway, great book. I recommend it.

I enjoy WWII books, but sometimes don’t want to read something “so dark”. This book was a great read for many reasons. You could put it down easily because the chapters were relatively short. It would switch between the two main character’s stories. It was a great love story with challenges throughout. The beginning of the book is also the end, so you know the main characters survive, which eliminates some stress while reading.

I picked up this book on a discount rack- and thought it would be a light summer read. It was anything but; it is the story of Joseph and Lenka and it begins in Prague on the eve of the 2nd World War. The descriptions are detailed and vivid, the heart break and loyalties truly moving. An ending that feeds the soul. My husband and I visited Terizin a few years ago and the sections of the book took us right back there, walking down the tree shaded streets, remembering the firing squad wall with the Nazi family residences for soldiers on the other side....complete with swimming pool. Dark times.
This is a good read about the indomitable human spirit. I recommend it.

In the spirit of reading what you own, I picked this book off my shelf after many, many, many years of it sitting there dormant. I believe my mom or grandmother gave me this book to read.

The story of a Jewish couple falling in love and getting married right before the start of WWII, the reader then follows their separate lives for sixty years. This story is inspired by true events, heartbreaking, a stunning reminder of resiliency, and sweetly romantic. I would recommend this for anyone who loves sad romance, historical fiction, or who enjoyed Sarah’s Key by Tatiana de Rosany and/or The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah.

Would give it 4.5 stars if I could. I really enjoyed the writing- it was really easy to read. I did not give it 5 because it lacks the eclectic writing style I personally enjoy.

Heartbreaking and difficult, as all books about the Holocaust are, it left me haunted, but also surprisingly satisfied.
