‘Most of the time now we settle for half and I like it better. But the truth is holy, and even as I know how wrong he was, and his ———- useless, I tremble, for I confess something perversely pure calls to me from his memory—not purely good, but himself purely, for he allowed himself to be wholly known and for that I think I will love him more than all my sensible clients. And yet, it is better to settle for half, it must be! And so I mourn him—I admit it—with a certain. . . alarm.’

Expressing my love for Arthur Miller is so hard because I feel he brings up such complex themes at the time and always comes back to the American dream and the suffocation of the law.
A view from the bridge was fabulous and I took so many notes on it. Although confusing it discussed deep topics such as infatuation and confusion as well as illegal refugees. This play was very much ahead of its time bit greatly appreciated.
I need more people to read Arthur Miller honestly I cannot wait to read the rest of his works
All my sons was CRAZY double suicide Mr. Miller loves his suicides in his plays and I don't blame him although a suicide is unsatisfactory in many ways it is realistic and shows complexity in characters

Both plays were full of tragedy and tortured characters. I am in love with how Miller soaks the pages in heartbreak, loss, conviction, and tears. The second story, "All My Sons" is especially prone to making you gape in awe with its low stakes but high tension.

3 ⭐️ A View from the Bridge: set up some things it didn't follow through on. interesting but a little disappointing at the end
5 ⭐️ All My Sons: excellent, extremely satisfying read. themes and characters on point and well fleshed out, one great title drop towards the end. fatherhood, war, business, grief. chef's kiss, can't wait to read it again with more paratext and really take a look at it. And watch a production of it of course.

tragic characters, they're hard to read sometimes. arthur miller had this talent for making their stories readable.
both main characters make terrible mistakes, have awful flaws, and although it isn't as black and white to just condemn them without a thought, their actions are unforgivable. they destroy the lives of others and those around them, and that's what makes these play so compelling to me even in 2024.
it's a shame we can't just easily go and watc ha play; we have to read them like books. ive been lucky enough to see both of these (a long time ago) performed and it does add a huge amount; the impact on each character is multiplied when acted out onstage.

A couple of very immersive and well constructed plays that showcase Miller's ability to criticize society through the vision of very relatable and yet tragic characters.
