Another great book in this series. I can't imagine living without working toilets. And the way people have gotten rid of waste was horrible. I'm glad I didn't live then. I like having my own "privy" and not have to go like the Ancient Romans. They had public toilets with rows of seats and no privacy. And the poor pigs. Yuck. Of course, lots of information and great pictures.

I sure have missed reading these books. So much information in 32 pages. It has wonderful illustrations by David Antram. These should be read by any kid doing reports for school and even for fun.

This was the only book I could find about ancient Greece in my elementary school library.

I read this book immediately after I had had toe nail surgery so I was living with pain at the time of reading. I thought this was a little bit ironic really and in a bizarre way reading about pain, and its relief, helped to take my mind off my own discomfort, at least for a while.

I found it really interesting to learn about the earliest pain relief techniques that were used which helped me to appreciate how far, and where we have come today. This book is complimented by very well detailed images and little comments in boxes throughout each page. It has one topic per two page spread making it appealing to young children who may loose interest quickly. It is also designed so you can read topics that appeal to you rather needing to read one topic before going onto another one. These are a great book for teachers as well as for those who just want to read something about a particular topic in an easy toe read style of writing. Highly recommend it and the series.

This book forms one of in excess of 100 in the series. They cover a wide selection of books. For a list of these books can be found here.

Fun, informative series for upper elementary students. Best for independent reading (too much going on around the pages for small group).

These "You Wouldn't Want to Live. . . " books are great introductions to topics for kids, so we use them often in our reading as the introduction to a topic. I think that this one is a little more boring than some of them because it tries to cover a wide collection of ideas related to time, and it ends up being very general in the information it imparts. It spends so little time with each topic that we end up being scattered and not learning very much.
