I do love a short and sweet romance - like a little shot of espresso to the heart. Read this during a snowstorm and it matched perfectly with the "burgeoning romance in winter" of D.M. Winters's book. Lovely complex characters with complicated histories and futures but full of warmth and compassion. What an addition to the queer pantheon! I want more from these characters - I want to know what happens next!

NOT ALONE ON CHRISTMAS was a good read but it was a bit melancholy and this affected my enjoyment of the book because it just didn't feel like enough pages to handle the tough issues being addressed. Especially the circumstances surrounding Stephanie and Nicole's last interaction in high school; I understand it's been 10 years but it was still pretty rough and I'm surprised they didn't talk about it more. I also found the writing awkward in a lot of places and this affected the overall flow of the story. That being said I did like both Stephanie and Nicole as characters and it was nice to see Stephanie finding her place in the world away from her controlling parents.

While this might not have been my favourite, I enjoyed a lot of the book and it had many aspects that I really liked, plus it was super sweet and put me in a good mood when I was reading it.
Brief summary
Stephanie was kicked out of her family home a week before Christmas because she came out. So she is moving and she meets Nicki on the train. Nicki and Stephanie have some history in high school where they kissed but didn’t get together. They start a relationship and fall in love.
This one was very sweet and I enjoyed many things about it. I really enjoyed Stephanie and Nicki’s character and their connection and banter was really sweet, they were good together and I enjoyed them as a couple. Also, I must admit that the one sex scene in this book was very hot and contributed to my rating of the book, it was really damn good.
I really enjoyed the concept of this book. And I wanted to love this book way more than I ended up liking it. I think it’s the length of the book that did not work for me. The book felt too short for all of the plot points that happened during the book, it felt like the plot points never were developed enough to make me enjoy them to their full potential. I think I would have loved this book if it was twice the length, I really enjoyed a lot of what happened in it, it’s just that everything that was happening felt too rushed for me to enjoy it as much as I could have.
I received an ARC of this book, and this is my honest review.
