Totally not the usual stories of Cecelia Ahern.

I was expecting the book to have the usual happy-magical tone, but apparently, the first story was really creepy (and to think i read this before sleeping, thinking i'll have a good night's sleep after reading this), and the second one was heartbreaking. Sigh. Still, it's a refreshing change of the overall tone of the author.

The book's cover is verrrryy misleading, though. Take note of that.

Both of the stories reminded me of "the hazel wood".
Mysterious, and needs to be read more than once.
I can see why other people might likw them.

It's a thin book, with only 89 pages, so I thought Heyyy I think this should take me just about a few hours to finish it but I was sadly mistaken. Anyhow, this book's brilliantly written. There are two short stories in it, and both don't really make sense, but they don't have to.

The first story, Girl in the Mirror, is what I'd like to call a horror story. A story about Lila who had lived 28 years without ever asking her grandmother why did she cover up all of her mirrors with black sheets, when it should be something curious, since her grandmother didn't even have eyes. Then on her wedding day, she finally found out why, but it was too late. Such an unfortunate thing, out of many other days, she just had to look at the mirror on her wedding day. This story's a bit creepy, I had goosebumps when I read it and it was 1am!

The second story, The Memory Maker, was about an old man who invented a machine that could create new memories. But it's not really about creating new memories, but changing your memories, instead of deleting them. He had been grieving ever since his girlfriend, Judith, died, and he had only one regret. At the end of the story, he finally understood what he needed to do and he did it. The way this story's written reminds me of Murakami books. Not exactly the same, but I get the vibe.

Outoa lukea Ahernia suomeksi. Molemmat novellit olivat ihan ok, mutta eivät sitä ihan tavallista Ceceliaa.

'The Girl in the Mirror' by Cecelia Ahern is two short stories. I didn't find the first story (Girl in the Mirror, about a strange mirror) too interesting or compelling, but I really liked the second (The Memory Maker).

The Memory maker is about our memories, and the moments we would like to change.

My favourite quote:
"It's about fixing a moment back to the way it should have been, had you not got distracted, or if you weren't such a coward or if you had known that that lost moment was the only moment you had to say or do what you wanted."

This book was very short, I read it in about an hour! But I don't mind that, my main problem with this book is that the stories are so confusing!

The first story with the girl trapped in the mirror ends pretty abruptly, and has a sad ending that left me very dissatisfied!

And the second story was just plain confusing! I didn't get what the meaning of the story was!

I love Cecelia Ahern and her writing style and the cute little illustrations in it are the only things that save this book from a 1 star rating.

I love shortstories, so I enjoyed these two as well. But the second one was intense. So frightening...

A freebie that turned out to be a 2 in one. And both nice and quick to read whilst I can't sleep.

The first one was wierd. How did Sarah know? Why did Jeremy not listen to Ellie? Why did one right answer overshadow two wrong ones? And months went by without Jeremy coming back to say she was right?

And then I'm just meant to accept she dragged some stranger into it? The narrative says he was perfect but all we know about him is that he was Polish. Are we meant to read something sinister into this, like with the Ring, and if so, isn't that just a little bit racist?

The second short was also odd but made for a lot nicer reading.
