A teen love story that feels a little different than others. It's not different, like Eleanor and Park, but it's not quite as cheesy as other teen romances. The characters are likable and the literary references will delight those who know them.

What a sweet little novel. Despite wanting to occasionally give Devon (our heroine) some serious big sister talk (get it together, woman), I loved the realism of the writing and the high school vibes. I recognized my seventeen year old self so clearly in Devon and felt appropriately re-stressed out about applying to college, almost twelve full years after graduating high school.
Also, Ezra is rocking some major Mysterious Loner Dude (TM) action and who couldn't love little Foster?! What a breath of fresh air. Major Friday Night Lights vibes with this one too, and never hurt a novel to be imagining Tim Riggins in your lead dude's body. All in all, a fun and easy read.

This book was sent to me by Uppercase Box. They send out monthly Young Adult Books with a few cool items to go along! Check it out if you’re wanting to find something of the sort! I stumbled upon it, and thought I’d try it out! So far this is the first book and items I’ve received from them! Loving it so far!
Review: **Please Note Review May Contain Spoilers**
So where to start. First off this book was truly well written. There are so many things to say about it and the simplest by far was how it was recommended to myself “it’s Pride and Prejudice meets Friday Night Lights.” I’m a huge fan of Jane Austen and the book itself does reference a lot of her work. The book is from the point of view of Devon, and her struggles with not knowing how to pick up on the obvious of high school crushes, and family changes when her cousin Foster comes to live with them.
What I love about this book is Devon is very relate-able. Even as a twenty-something I often found myself thinking back to my senior year of high school, and often had the same confusion about college, and family matters. Even in my current every day life I find myself relating to some of her feelings! On the other hand, Devon can be somewhat unlikeable at the same time. Whether Mills intended to do this on purpose I couldn’t tell you. But again, making her all the more realistic, let’s be on there’s time when we say something we wish we hadn’t.
Then you have Foster and Ezar. Foster at first comes off to be just the annoying cousin/sibling in Devon’s life, but personally her grew on me. His character development was done very well, and in a way that again was realistic and touched on everything you could want in a partner in crime. Ezar is our Darcy in this book, and he truly does have the Darcy aspect to him! He is also a character who grows on you! There are other characters that you read about that will remind you of someone you knew or know now. Like Cas, the guy (or girl) you’ve had a lifetime crush on, yet they never return your same feelings, so you’re stuck being best friends and watching them date. Oh year, she went there.
One of my favorite quotes from this book (other than the ones previously posted) “A double invitation. Ambitious”
The book itself wasn’t a very long or complex read. Most of it was easy to read through without getting confused. Again, the book was very well written. I recommend this book for anyone who loves Pride and Prejudice, or is looking for a good read. Anyone from pre-teen to adults (the 20-somethings in particular).

Bland characters with a love story that had little chemistry. Characters that are introduced and then disappear and plot points that sort of fizzle out.
A book that's advertised as a cross between Pride and Prejudice and Friday Night Lights. Aside from having a distant male lead it's not very P&P like. Though the main girl is obsessed with Jane Austen, so a lot of references made. To be fair, I'm not really an Austen fan.
As a HUGE fan of Friday Night Lights, people do understand that it's more than just high school football right? Because that's the only similarity to FNL that I saw. FNL was a masterpiece that was about life, love, family, friends, hope, despair, working together, a town with nothing left to give, marriage, etc...It was one of the best TV programs to come out in the 2000's. To boil it down to "high school football" is basically saying "pirates" for One Piece or "magical ring" for Lord of the Rings or "space ship" for Star Trek. Basically, I guess I'm upset that this book was lacking a lot of the FNL elements that it could have actually had. The author started putting things in and starting up plot points, but it all sort of went away.
2.5 stars. It gave me something to do when my migraine wouldn't let me sleep, lie down, look at a screen, or do anything else except somehow read a simple book.

I really enjoyed this book. It definitely had an Austen-esque feel, but more simple and accessible. I don't know why, but I was really annoyed with Devon. I think a lot of it had to do with her initial treatment of Foster. Also, Cas was kind of a jerk. But I loved Ezra, Foster, and Jordan. I would actually really love a book dedicated solely to Jordan!

Well, that was sweet. Pure cotton candy fluff of sweetness. Which isn't a bad thing. This book made me happy. The cover art is probably my favorite cover in forever, even if I still haven't figured out what it has to do with the book. I don't know how much really happens but I dug that Devon is liked, and likeable. She's relatable and funny (I'm totally stealing Prostitots for day to day conversation) and I really REALLY love that the kids in her school are just decent, good people. It's nice to read a YA book where the conflict is not about mean girls or spitefulness. I think I may have just talked myself into a high star rating.

I wasn't really enjoying this in the beginning but then I fell in love with the characters. Foster was so sweet and Ezra was perfection. I also really liked the friendship between Devon and Jordan. I love a good healthy female-male friendship.
One of my major issues, in the beginning, was the main character has a big problem slut-shaming other girls. She calls the freshmen girls in her gym class "Prostitots" and then later abbreviates it to PT's. The whole phrase was just so gross. I hated how she acted like because she didn't wear much makeup and wasn't as into her clothes she was better than these girls. A character does eventually call her out on it but it took a while.

if you hate:
- girl hate
- judgmental characters
- slut shaming
- gender expectations
then this is a book that will really annoy you for the first 2/3 or so before character development solves it all!!
also, if you like:
- football
- jane austen
- misunderstood jocks
then this is for you. i only like one of those things and i managed to survive.
this was mainly just okay, but look what it managed to tackle!! wow. all wrapped up in that cover. (i am a heart eyes emoji right now.)
bottom line: UNDERNEATH THE DUST JACKET OF THIS HARDCOVER THERE'S ANOTHER DESIGN. (the thing i feel most passionate about when it comes to this book is its exterior aesthetic so i'm running with that.
