I was going to give this three stars, because it was a little predictable. But it surprised me once in the end with a not-so-happy ending for one of the characters, and I like when authors make things a little harder for the characters...so that's why it is getting four stars.

As a straight up fantasy with a little romance mixed in to keep it interesting, I found myself really liking this book yet aware that it had a lot to do with my already being familiar with the world the characters inhabit.
Elphame is a great female lead and the male lead, Lochlan, is a good complement to her even though her brother, Cuchulainn, steals the male spotlight.
There’s action, romance, suspense, magic, Centaurs, and a castle… everything one needs for some really good fantasy.
Definitely recommended for those familiar with the Partholon series, but a caution to those who like their fantasy world fully developed within the book. Not much gets explained for those unfamiliar. You’ve been warned.

love it. Elphame is a really strong character and tries to find herself after discovering that everyone looks at her different from her mother. I love how she builds herself up into a strong character that people can count on. I'm so going to buying this book when i have the chance.

Unlike the first three books in this series, this one has nothing to do with Shannon, and is full blown fantasy. Elphame is put in a rough place where she needs to choose between love and her family. It was a fun book to read, though very predictable.

It was very slow getting into, but the end is worth it!
