I wish they had negative stars. This was blah from the beginning.

It is hard to know which was worse - the awful plot, the lack of any form of character development, the terrible craftsmanship of Laymon's writing or the fact that this torture continues in subsequent novels...

I wish I could give this less than one star.

Thankfully we have improved ways of writing splatter gore since the 80s!

WTF was that ending?

I feel like at some point, somebody told this guy that he had to come up with a bunch of characters and a plot and some dialogue and etc. when really all he wanted to do was write about ladies getting it on with sexy rat monsters.

Live your best life, man.

The Cellar is a chilling and fast-paced horror novel that delivers plenty of shocks and suspense. Richard Laymon creates an atmosphere of dread that will keep you turning the pages. However, the graphic violence and sometimes gratuitous scenes may be a bit much for some readers, and the character development can feel a bit thin. It’s a solid read for horror fans who enjoy a darker, grittier story, but it might not be everyone's cup of tea.

Women (and little girls) suffer horrible abuse from paedophile. Get saved from him by heroic but morally grey man. End up captured by monsters who keep them as sex slaves, and will use them to bear children. But then they're basically happy because that's all they really needed anyway right?
