A good historical fiction novel that combines a mystery, Greek history and myth, and 1799 London.

The plot has a few bumps, and necessitates suspension of credulity on occasions, also leaving some loose ends around the mysteries of the vase.
Nevertheless a rollicking good yarn - which would also be great as an atmospheric adventure movie or miniseries.

There are always some books that you get really excited for and just can't make your way through them. I tried to listen to the audiobook and read and it didn't grab my attention like I had hoped. Good idea for a story, could of been more interest grabbing. I would say give it a go, since everyone enjoys things differently.

I received this book from Netgalley for an exchange of my honest opinion.
Susan Stokes-Chapman created a story that makes you feel immersed into London in the late 1700s. The vibes I kept getting from this story was The Mummy. I kept envisioning Dora as Rachel Weis and Edward as the studly Brendan Fraser. A story with mystery, finding love, found friends, and murder. This was a joy to read and felt like such an adventure of uncovering truths.

Somehow, the vase/jar felt like a bit player in this mild historical adventure story. A really interesting idea that started well in the prologue but at the end I felt like I was reading a film script needing a big finish - whirring machinery walls and a dramatic denouement.
The magpie was a lovely touch.
