Stay Out of the Basement was, in my opinion, much better than Welcome to Dead House. First of all, the story was much more original and strange, and because of that it was more unpredictable. It could go anywhere and anything could've happened. Nevertheless, the concept of the story is not that scary, it's kind of silly even, but there's a lot more to work with and the uncertainty of what is happening leaves more room to imagination, which I think is what makes the horror genre so successful.

Not as scary as the first book in the series but I thought the one big scene was pretty big for a kids book! This one also was more mysterious and the plants themselves were creepy!

Stay out of the Basement is a sizeable improvement in the series. Stine seemed to give kids more credit with the writing here. As mentioned in the last review, he doesn't keep his writing *as* simple with this one. And it is a trend I'm happy to see continued in the book after this one.
I enjoyed the descriptions of the basement. For (intentionally) simple writing Stine new how to paint a picture. You get a real sense of the scene he's created with very little to go off of. The brother and sister can be a little flat. But they serve the story well.
There are some solid spooky moments here. And the twist at the end is enjoyable. The dad character is frightening. There's a moment at the dinner table that is tense for middle grade horror. Some of the concepts are pretty creepy. I'd say (with a few tweaks) this would be a great Goosebumps book to adapt into a modern movie. My favorite of the three I read.

Loved it! Such a creepy concept and a great way to portray a kids view of an adult having trouble in their life~ I can't stop double checking my pores.

Forse colpa di questo libro se molti pensano che anche le piante soffrono
