I liked it and would recommend. The end went off the rails a little bit, but not enough for me to be mad about it. Definitely some parts where you might need to suspend disbelief. I enjoyed it while I was reading it, but I don't know if this is a book that the details will stick with me if someone were to ask me questions about it. I listened to the audiobook for the first 75% and once I got my hands on a physical copy, it made the story a bit easier to follow since there were so many timelines and character perspectives that switched throughout the story.

I really really liked this book! Until the end :/ I think I wanted something a bit juicier or scarier or idk, something (!) with the two big reveals ???

I really liked the non-linear storytelling and the different narrators, I thought it was a good way to add to the confusion of a missing persons case that is also connected to a prior scandal also.

Liz Moore’s ability to describe not only accurately, but devastatingly, how a mother feels when so achingly tied to her son is amazing; it made me tear up hearing about the psychological torment Alice was put through by these rich mf. Rip bear & rip Alice’s sanity and autonomy.

I also appreciated the common thread of the abuses of power by the wealthy families, and the men in the story too. I felt that it was realistically frustrating.

I can see why there has been so much talk about this book. It is a grand story about the disappearance of two siblings fourteen years apart, one beloved and one barely tolerated. This is all tied into the class differences between their family and the poorer family that lives on their land running a youth summer camp. I know with thriller/mystery stories there have to be a good amount of characters so you don’t figure everything out in the first few chapters, but there was just too much going on for me. I had a hard time keeping everyone and all the timelines straight.
