I really liked this book! As a former camp counselor, this was a must read. It took a bit for me to get hooked on it at first. The beginning was a little confusing because of the constant switch between characters and the past and present. I do feel like a lot of people were introduced to the story quickly. The book also switched between story lines a lot and it can take awhile to get back to certain ones. But then I started getting very into it once I was getting the hang of the plot and how it was laid out and finished within a few days. The ending was good! Was hoping to finish with some clarity on the two main disappearances.

The way the story jumps through time felt a bit disorganized for the first half of the book until pieces start falling into place. However the story and the perspectives of the various characters were all felt unique and authentic.

I really loved this book, it brought me back to my youthful summer camp stays. I gave it a 4.25 and not 5 because I constantly had to remind myself whose perspective I was reading. Don’t get me wrong, I throughly enjoyed the multiple perspectives, but had to really pay attention to timeline and character.

God of the Woods was amazing. I was so interested, it pained me to put the book down while reading. The twists were interesting and I didn’t predict until right before the reveal.

Liz Moore does a great job at balancing the flashbacks and alternating character POVs where it is not confusing to keep up with. I enjoyed which characters she chose to give a POV from and how everyone from “all sides” were represented. This genuinely made me interested in both the characters and the plot.

Everyone online seems to hate the ending but personally I adore it.
Judy respecting Barbara’s wish to disappear was powerful in my opinion. I especially enjoyed the simplicity of the last scene: “Do you want me to leave you alone?” “Yes.”  I felt like leaving the conversation at that was very telling and was an interesting balance of closure and non-closure. I can see why people would find it a let down if they were looking for a dramatic end OR no end reveal, but the ending that was written almost feels more life-like.

This was easily one of the best books i’ve read in the past year.
