Pushed through to finish this after they dropped the unexpected pregnancy, and I can kinda see where it fits in the story but overall felt like an afterthought. The plotline of the wolves scaring the farmers was a fine plot on its own, and even the murder mystery. I just don't think the romance (?) really added anything because I don't think Inti can ever fully trust Duncan after everything that happened in her life.

I lapped this book up like a wolf drinking from a stream. I'm a sucker for alive writing right now, and this writing is alive. The story moved quickly, and I read the book in functionally two sittings. I had to stop in the middle for our book club meeting, and it drove me nuts that I had to wait. The suspense hooked me in so tightly that I spent an hour and a half before work reading the next day, to the point that I didn't exercise or eat breakfast or shower.

i absolutely loved this. i had no idea what to expect going in and i think that is the best way to read this. the sisters' relationship was amazing, the plot was well-rounded and fulfilled, and the ending was perfect.

I wasn't sure if I liked this book until the end. It's much darker than I typically enjoy, but by the end, I loved it. It is painful, emotional, hard to read and so well written.

It is an intense story about humanness built around the deep importance of conservation. Learning to trust and grow after extreme trauma is also a centerpiece of this book.

You will probably guess part of the ending, but it still has elements that will surprise you and make you weep. Again, incredibly well written. Will leave you aching and hopeful. What a wild ride.

The audiobook read by Saskia Maarleveld is outstanding! I usually space out during audiobooks but I was engaged the entire time and the narration added an new level of emotion to the story. This was sometimes a hard book to get through, and listening to the last 20% of it in the car made me forget to take my freeway exit. Definitely check content warnings before heading into this, it was more detailed than I realized.

wow I loved this one.

Inti & her twin sister Aggie arrive in Scotland to introduce a pack of wolves to the Scottish Highlands in hopes of saving the wildlife ecosystem. The sisters grew up in the forests of British Columbia & Alaska and find this new place reminds them much of home and childhood. As Inti and her team lead the mission, not everyone in the Scottish town is welcoming to their endeavors. But when trauma from Aggie’s past resurfaces in dangerous ways and a local sheep farmer is found dead…Inti is faced with having to find ways to defend both her sister and the family she has found in having raised this pack of wolves.

McConaghy beautifully captures the wildness of nature and the primal instinct of lengths we go to protect our kin.

This is a great one to listen to an audiobook. The pace of the novel is perfect and the narrator does a fantastic job performing multiple characters and accents. I appreciate how distinguishable each character is which I’m sure is very difficult to do while maintaining Scottish, Australian, Canadian and Norwegian accents.

I do want to include a TW domestic abuse, the books is not centered on it but there are a couple flashback scenes that are intense.
