The Ewoks have a multi-paragraph discussion translated from Ewokian into English about whether to help the Rebel Alliance or not. This is the only thing that seemed different from the movies. With that in mind, skip this and just watch the movies. I’m a big Star Wars fan, despite its many plot holes, so the subject matter of this trilogy gets five stars. I was hoping this version of the story would include more depth than could be covered in the time allotted for the film. But since it really didn’t, I can only rate it three stars.

As far as movie novelizations go, as much as I adore Star Wars, the books are a poor imitation, unfortunately.

This is a difficult book to rate because I knew the story so well. I've been a Star Wars fan since it was first introduced to me as a child. Sure, the books weren't an exact match to the movies, but they were close.

I read Star Wars: A New Hope for the 1st time ever. The is not much different from the film a few things vary. The special edition of the films is more close to the novel than the original film of 77. Things like the scene with Jabba at Mos Eisley are in the novel but were left out of the original movie. Two thing that were really different were Luke in the book is not apart of red squadron, and Chewie gets a medal at the end. I always thought it was wrong he gets assed out in the film while everyone else gets a medal. I will finish this book which includes The Empire Strikes Back as well as Return of the Jedi but first I have other books to read since I am reading the new cannon in chronological order. All in all the novel is an interesting read and follows the movie, especially the special edition of the film very well.

This is a 2nd review of this book because I just finished The Empire Strikes Back. If you did not see the 1st review I am reading the new cannon in chronological order. Since starting The Empire Strikes Back two new books have been released so next I will be going back in time and reading a book called Master & Apprentice which takes place before Episode 1: The Phantom Menace and is about Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan.
So the Episode 5: The Empire Strikes Back is pretty much just like the movie. There are a few added lines of dialogue to certain scenes and some scenes that didn't make the movie. It is an easy read and very enjoyable. Most of the bonus scenes or scenes that didn't make the film were not a big deal. A lot of them take place on Degobah and involve Luke training with Yoda. Yoda is blue by the way which is really confusing since in the novels for episode 1-3 he is green. I am told they fixed this with new novels of episode 4-6 but I have yet to buy those. They also fix some plot holes I am told about R2 & Obi-wan knowing each other and other stuff. Once I get those and read those I will post a review also.
I have 4 book to go before I reach Episode 6: Return of The Jedi, so stay turned for review #3!
