My boys (7 & 10) enjoyed this as a read aloud, so overall it was a success. However, repeating Dean D. Dean and Dan D. Dean was only fun for the first 50 times. The narrator style was also cute at first - but that also got rather grating and repetitive. I think the kids will enjoy the sequel, but it will be a better independent read.
